I recently attended a seminar and was reminded of one of the most basic tenets that real change of anything we do is not without suffering. We come to therapy hoping that the therapist will improve our lives, but the real work is the patient’s ability to endure the emotional pain and reflection that it takes for change to occur. It is the therapist who guides, but it is the patient who really does the work. Those who are willing to take this journey are truly courageous.
